Just starting this one; I plan to post a number of stages as I draw. Unfortunately, all I have is a digital camera and the shots don't come out so well, so some of the shading/detail is either blurry or gone.

Drawing this off a reference photo of a friend (which I won't post because I don't have her permission.)

Critique is appreciated. Especially if it's something to do with her face or hair - I'm having difficulties with each. I know the teeth look terrible, as does her ear. And I just noticed her left eye is too high. Strange, it wasn't so apparent when I was looking at the original.

yes, noticed the eye.
I think the ear is out of perspective, it's aligned more to the horizon rather than the direction of her head, which is giving it that low slung tilted look.
Also her noes looks very big? This could be accurate but it is noticable. The nostril is elongated back to far and the shadow a bit too deep. But there is no clear light source at the moment.
Good start. Will check back.

Thanks for your feedback, Tymotzues.

My next update (apologies for the poor image quality):


Lowered the left eye
Spent some time on the ear
Changed the chest and torso so they're so they're consistent with the angle of the head.


I'm not sure I'll bother to post any more updates after this one. I'm becoming too frustrated with the poor quality of the image from my camera and how it subtly distorts the drawing and doesn't pick up any but the darkest shading/rendering. I may reserve forum space for when I return to digital artwork.

I decided to redraw this digitally, using the original sketch as a starting point. So far, I'm liking how things are shaping up.
