In a standard IK leg, for example, there's nothing saying which direction the leg should bend when the IK handle is moved, except for the initial rotation of the bones.
The pole vector is a vector that points in the direction that the knee should be pointing.
The pole vector is flattened out to being on a 2D plane, with the vector from the IK root to the IK handle being the normal to that plane...
If this didn't make any sense, then please do say, and I'll draw up a couple of diagrams....

Can I simulate a Pole vector by just using an expression that alway makes the bone "lokk at " a null ?
