LostSoul¹13 05-15-2003, 04:04 AM OK i have a metal surface and I came tro a conclusion the only way i can pull it off is to put a spec map on it but i have no idea on how to make one Can anyone help me Im Using Max. I know its black and white but wich colors go for what and how can u see it working?

Don't use black and white, use grays. Black and white give you absolutely no variance.
The way it works is simple - the lighter the gray, the more specular. Metal is fairly shiny when it is in good condition, so your grays should be fairly bright. I usually make my maps using the dodge and burn tools in Photoshop.
Also, depending on what kind of metal is it, you might want to use anisotropic specularity. That is for metals that have been machined, and the tiny grooves in the metal cause the light reflections to behave in a specific way, depending on the angle of the machining.
