I thought of creating a black-in-white photo of a black farmer during the depression. First time using materials in Maya; still learning. Any improvements which I'm sure there are would be great to hear. Thanks.

I really dig you picture aRTCy, pretty cool.

Two things to critique.

It looks like you have a pretty cool model, but you're not really showing it. The face is really dark.

Your bump map on the face looks great, but it's a little too much on the chest and neck.

Looks really cool though, keep up the good work.

damn why did this thread get overlooked? this is great, it has something all those androids lack, major style. I agree about the chest bump thing, a little too much. Maybe transfer that bump to the shirt! the shirt looks a bit too plastic right now, make it dirtier or rougher! awesome background too, this is a great composition, if you really want to make it old you could go with the sepia tones and some speckle, that might look good too. AMAZING STYLE:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

I thought maybe to post the colorized version to see if people like that one better.

same issue with the face. The bump on the chest is a lot better.

Keep it B&W. It rocks.

Can you post an image of him not hidden in the shadows? It's hard to make out what his face looks like from the nose up. I like what I am able to see though.

I think the shadows being cast on the neck veins are a little too sharp. To me, it's making the veins look more triagular.

Ya that's better. Now I can see his mug. Looks good. Bump map on the chin might need a bit more work but all in all nice job.

:applause: i love it.

but I think his collar bones (?) (the ones at the top of his chest?) look a bit too sharp... it's probably just me tho.
