View Full Version : So, I need fresh eyes
Cerulean-G 04-30-2008, 03:13 AM Hi there. I'm kind of new around here (joined about a month ago). Anyway, I was wondering if I could get a few fresh eyes and help me with this piece? I'm getting some messages that something doesn't look right with the face, so if you could help with that, it'd be great. Also, the skirt doesn't look natural so if you could help me with that, I'd appreciate it also. Thanks!

I'm not sure, but you seem to be going for that fresh 'light and airy' CN style, so I don't know if I should say some things or leave some things out. I think her left eye is looking a bit too far to the right, try moving it towards the centre a little. Maybe too, try making her shoulders not as broad, or instead making her head a bit bigger, whichever easier. As for the skirt, it's got no real overall shadow, just dapples of light and dark (although that could be the CN kind of thing) but also I think there are far too many folds in it, try balancing it out by putting less folds.
I do like her hairstyle, and she looks like a sweet disney character!

Thanks for the reply!
Yes, I am going for an light and airy feel, nothing dramatic. When you say her left eye, do you mean her left or my left? I think you mean her left... so if I were to change that, I would have to change the alignment of her nose and then chin, too.... As for the shoulders and head, I'm gonna have to see which is easier because neither does at this point.
As for the skirt, I meant it to be that way. It's supposed to have lots of fold... it one of those skirts that have lots of folds in them. But, like someone suggested to me, I should look at references and go from there.
And, I really hate Disney (and I haven't watched a lot of them), so when you make that comparison, I can't see where you're making the connection. Who are you thinking of? I like her hair, so I don't intend to change it... except maybe make it darker in particular areas later.
haha damn I always do that, I mean our left... I didn't know whether you were going for extra wrinkley, but if thats the case, those are pretty hard to pull, they need a lot of lighting majiggy.
lol, I hate disney too (except... for... the lion king). Damn kingdom hearts. I meant it as a compliment though, I thought she had a bit of a disney girl feel to her design.

Thanks for the clarification. I will work on it some more... once I get done with finals. You're right about the wrinkly skirt. I'm still working -or at least, trying to figure out a way, anyway. And I don't know why, but for some reason, when I read your first post, I thought you wrote that you didn't like her hair style. :surprised I don't know how that happened. I thought the Lion King was okay (I only liked the songs...) Love Kingdom Hearts... disappointedly, they have Disney characters in there >.> But a fun game overall :)
Yeah I love the square character designs (especially namine!) but it was just too disney wholesome for me- the whole 'all I need in life is love and friends and that has the power to banish evil' message, which is a nice message, don't get me wrong, but it makes me feel... icky.
Plus it was kind of like... Let's throw every popular character in one game then at least we know we're going to sell X amount
hahaha...
Anyway keep at this! It really is looking good so far!
