I was rendering a character with image based lighting and final gathering and noticed that everything worked great except for the subsurface scattereing skin (misss_fast_skin) which did noot light. The only way I could get it to light was to add a light to the scene. Is there some button I need to click some where to make the sss shader work with IBL and no lights?

on your light linking node, there is an attribute called "use indirect lighting" check that little box, and you're good to go.

awesome, thanks!

The default settings on the mental ray shaders always seem to have these kinds of mini bugs in them. Why does this not default to being "on" for example? or why does one have to manually check that you want to have an alpha channel in the globals for sss? Seems to not be very well thought out from the programming side.
