View Full Version : animation|showreel 02 03
Hi! I`m new to this forum. I`d like to very quickly present myself, my name is Martin Lovvold and currently a student on idefagskolen in Norway, who`s a Maya-based school. This mini-reel was created as a final-exam for this years study. Enough about me, here`s the low-rez.reel.

Was just wondering if showreels are a bit non-interesting since some of the reels-posts I`ve browsed through are virtually empty for replies.. nor just mine just plain sux? Anyway, nice forum. -m

looks pretty nice...but its hard to read your name and contact info...which might be important ;)...i think the expressions are really nice...but are you doin lipsync with them?...if so it might be nice to have it shown...but then again im just a student myself..so i dont know how good my advice is
thnx.all.
Tikisan: I`ve been thinking about that. But I did`nt want to have a reel desperatly screaming " HELP! I NEED I &%" JOB! " I personal think that if the person seeing a reel likes what he/she sees, he/she takes the time to read the name that appeared on the reel.
I`m student for another year, so it`s no big rush really, I`ve just began to profile myself. -but if something interesting comes up so..
about the lipsync-part; I`ve thought about it, but I think that if I`d turn the music down and enter talk-sounds, it would disturb the float of the whole reel. but really, thnx for input.
best, -m

yo
this is a really nice stylish reel. i liked the tv model with all the lovely DOF, and the blue guy with no legs was pretty funny.
However it might be better if u used the whole full size of the movie player, instead of a movie inside a movie, even tho it is a cool style.
i'm a student too, and one of our last projects was to make a reel and research what a good reel should be. what i came across the most is that many employers ( especially in the world of film) dont want anything too fancy, they just want to see the work. but if your applying to a client based company like TV ads for example, then they do want something thats a bit more flash.
i dunno if you get a magazine called 3D world where you are, but that usually has loadsa stuff about showreels. Issue 31 especially.
anyways, it looks better than my reel,
Thats superbly put together, very interesting camera work, and style, modelling is better than the animation..
:applause: :applause:

Not bad, but if you are going to put your stuff into a TV at least have the TV be wide-screen so that 50% of the video frame isn't white/black space.
thnx.for feedback.
ninjacore: thnx.the reason I went for this idea,is that I wanted to create something a bit different.I also wanted to follow my new profile to the bone.check out www.emm3d.com for more.
G.Rodi:thnx.modelling better than anim.?k,will take that into count when creating new stuff.will focus mainly on animation in the future.
stephen2002:good point.thnx.

Hi emm3D,
I am a lead animator for a video game company. I would like to give tou some feedback on your show reel. I really like your usage of camera focal points and action movement. I would first start off by changing the one eyed alien character. It is a very popular character and it might appear to possible employers that you had copied an idea. We look for original ideas. Also, try to get more detailed with your organics. Get some detail in there. If your main focus is on animation, walk cycles are great, but try to show some character interaction. Fight scenes are good, shows timing and weight. If your focus is on modeling, put some spinning models in there and try to give a wireframe example with some poly count numbers. You are off to a good start man, hope this helps.
(3C)machine:thank you!now that`s usefull feedback to me.I`m a student for another year, this year I used to get into Maya. Will use another year to focus on animation and some post-prod./rendering.thanx again! -m
