Good news.

Erm... is this CG news though? It's just about the price of a piece of hardware... like saying 'DVD players now $50 bucks in Wal Mart' ;)

Hopefully the board might fill up with a few more game/CG related posts over the coming days of E3 from your good self Roberto!

actually i would say that this is relevant.........the cheaper the unit the more people will own one, the more games will be produced (due to the higher demand) thus resulting in more jobs.....so yes i would say this is CG News

I hear that - I work in development myself. :)

Anything that promotes industry growth can only be a good thing.... but I'm not sure of your rationale mate.

That's kind of like saying the cheaper DVD players get, the more people will be employed in film visual effects because more movies will get made. While there's a chance that's true, it's more likely that the audience simply gets larger as the installed base rises. There won't necessarily be an increase in movies made...

Whatever.:) Price cuts are good for building the market up and getting consoles in homes. But the worst thing about the industry right now is development companies going down while the market grows, especially independents... I know of dozens of folks who lost their jobs this past year (myself included) in a time of unprecedented growth for video games.

Didn't mean to dis the facts!

Man I had too much coffee today.:surprised

you could say that......but movies arent created for dvd players..........if they were that would be true.......but movies are made for theaters.....dvds are a bonus of the biz.....but if you think about it that same movie can be viewed in SO many different ways.......dvd, vhs, theater, divx, mpeg4.......the only thing i could see the movie industry equating to would be.......more people are going to see movies so more movies are made so there are more jobs.....and actually at the moment that is true.

actually i think a better analogy would be, make cars really cheap and you can raise the price of gas, you need a car to want gas........raise the price of gas and more people will have jobs producing it because the money is coming in to spend on workers.

the reason it works on a game system is.....the only way to play an Xbox game is to own an xbox................that is very centralized.....thus the more units owned for more games will be produced because it wont be as much of a risk.
