Beneath a cloudy sky that evokes the marine abyss, a crumpled paper girl finds her way through a city of computer circuit buildings, with cars made out of newspapers in different languages. She rides up a hill, trying to escape from the city, but she suddenly falls into a hole in the ground: she can see all the layers of the earth and purgatorial creatures - a millipede office-worker carring a golden bug and an eye-fish.
After traversing all the layers she reaches an underground sea, into which she dives, and from the centre of the planet she's thrown into the space transforming into a butterfly. The butterfly flies free in the sky and reaches a grove made of parquet borders and spiral-like trees. She can see marine creatures living in the grove - little whales moving like ants on a branch, squids with mushroom heads swimming into the air.
The butterfly rests on a spider's web, illuminated by rays of sunlight. The spider has a human head and ballet dancer legs and he watches the butterfly, waiting for his chance. As he approaches her she stumbles, her wings stick to the web and she becomes trapped. She struggles until her body swells up and explodes into a bug fountain. As the bugs start devouring the web, the spider quickly escapes.
Coming out from the body of a bug, the crumpled paper girl finds the butterfly wings and uses them to fly away from the destroyed web. In the clear sky, the girl flies towards and into a shining eye-sun.
