I have a project to make simulation of big waterfall, kind of this picture
http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/images/waterfall.jpg

Can you give me advice how to do it?
I've learned basic particle simulation, is it enough to creating the effect? Should I learn Maya's fluid effect? Or should I try another fluid software (RealFlow)?

Thanks a lot.

Probably a mix of animated textures, surface emission using sprites/blobbies/multipoints and fluids for the large misty areas.

u can use fluid for also the waterfall - falling part. with a high resolution, and collisions, you can probably pull it off. just need to set the buyoncy, to a really high negative value so the fluid goes downs instead of up.

if u want, you can use realflow, and waht i have heard is that nCloth, does some really nice water effects.
