too many polys wasted on hte tires just use images and apply bump maps...that would to the trick....

uhm, the screwthread is necessary because.....?

i think the detail is overdone on the screw, no way you will ever see it back in the model

Nosalis
05-15-2003, 08:23 AM
IMHO, the detail is a little bit high. I`ve seen a render of an military wehicle with 1 million+ polygons, .. but a same render (model) I`ll do with 300-500 polys.

And this is similar case. I think, that that detail is not necesary. If you are not plannig to render some close-ups, it is useless.

ME3D
05-15-2003, 08:44 AM
If you'd really like to have this pop by having detail such as the threads on the bolts....Cool! But as a tip anything past a certain range in detail would be faster and look the same to just paint it in the texture. Such as the threads on the bolts I would suggest just painting that.
Also I agree if your not going to do a closer view on this then dont do nearly as much detail as this. LW has a poly cap even with faster machines that will set your render times to an unrealistic amount. Might not show good production practices if thats a concern.

Looks good so far.

Hey... Nice Work:thumbsup: !!! I would be interested to know how you turn or model you tail light from a patch of mesh. Would be great to give more details and illustration. Keep up the good work!!!

I think so!For the rendering of the bus,the detail of screw is not used at all!
But I'm used to keep it for the using someday or somewhere later! and the screw is often used somewhere. It's not a bad habit to model the entire staple objects though not need it right now!

The modelling looks great so far, some progress would be good.

I agree with the others about the bolts, the detail wont be seen, not even when the bolts are in the wheels. You could save allot of free polys with them.

Use the plugin "RemoveX" and undo tip to get this two parts! Because the bus body's some difference for the two sides.
I'll update later.

The sides will be later! I modeled the head. I can not say why I've spended so much time on the modeling for this part. Perhaps the figue is not easy to catch just from the photo.

Omph I don't get it (or haven't gotten it)...

Is this poly tools in Lightwave? The wireframe isn't "edgy" at all.

Specifically, what kind of tool are you using for your smooth stuff?

Oj Oj this is simply great fun to watch!

This is just awesome. I was thinking to myself a few weeks ago, once i get me latest car done i'll do a bus, no ones done a bus... and then i see this thread ;) I love ur attention to detail. The more u model, the less u gotta texture :D (thats how i work anyways hehe)

So nice to see this come together. Is it sub divisional modeling? I don't have a clue how to use patchs or splines well (with max 5).

Keep up the good work

Simon.

I_use_celeron
05-28-2003, 02:43 PM
The Spline and Patch were made in Lightwave, then SubPatch. I screwed the SubPatch to get the shape and details. I think the SubPatch is some like "sub divisional modeling" in 3DSMAX.

I do not decide to completly modeling the details around the side windows or just take the effect by Surface and Texture. Is this the necessary and enough modeling for the windows?

It is ok to make details you won't see because the idea here is just to model for fun, not just make a pretty picture. So you can learn a lot by modeling everything, just remove what can be removed when you render, that's all:)
