I started this character late in last months challenge, so here he is for this one. His names Jezban, a demon messenger for the dark lord. I originaly saw this guy in a dream i had. He looks pretty much like the guy in the dream but i put a few twists on him.
poly count is about 4073 and he's geared for game.

Hey there rv_el :)
Why don't you start off by slapping a couple of really basic start-off textures on him, so we can see what direction you are heading in?
I think that would encourage more peeps to reply to your thread :D

In the side view, it almost looks like he has breasts. Does he? If not, you may want to work a bit on the jacket.

What's this character's purpose?

heres a texture update. Still needs alot of work, things have slowed down big time. still working the human skin into parts of the jacket. Pants are a little highwater but thats a very easy fix. http://www.pseudo-pod.com/temp/jezban1.jpg

Ah I like it, nice to see a character geared for game. The boots look really good and I like the implimentaion of the skin. The pants are also looking reallly well, it looks like you got the folds right on. Although I think you need to work on the jacket folds a little bit more, they really dont look natural. I would like to see close ups of some of the textures. Also are you useing one map to map your whole guy? Is there skin wrapping around his arm? It looks a little odd from this view. Great job keep it up!

human skin!!!!!! shag u sick sick man :)

the stretched skin on the back does look nice!!

If your going for realism then I have to agree with the comments about the guys chest. Could use some work. But if you want a stylized look I actually think it looks kinda cool. If he's more of a frankenstein type of character then the odd shape would work.

Is the black pattern on the front of him a tattoo?

Ok, yeah the skin wrapped around the arm is gone and i'm going for a new approach on that. theres gonna be stitches around alot of the skin, this is one side the other is also there.. i'm really happy with the human skin chap thingys.. the chest thing is still in the works (the shirt) its a custom fish net shirt. he's a "dark angel" which is why the tat on the back has wings btw...

igore the shit on his arm. originally i had a tattoo snake planed out for going around his arm. dunno what i'm gonna do about that just yet.

The chaps are wicked awesome. The shoes rock as well. Did you add a bump to the guy? I love the leather texture. Do you plan on doing something with his eyes or just leave them white? Also the netting needs a drop shaddow or something unless its a tattoo. I love how you have the skin weave through the jacket maybe you can put that in the zipper area as well.. Just some thoughts, good job

Thank man, Yeah i already put in a drop shadow for the fish net shirt, it was planned all along but the shirt of course was like 4 different layers so i just had to get off my ass to duplicate them all, merge them, move them and then gausian blur them :) hehe. i added a quick bump map to the leather. Originally his eyes were a freaky pale blue, i might do it, i just got them unwrapped though. they were separate sphere objects.. he also has teeth that arent painted and alpha mapped yet.. some crappy bones for doing facial expresions, for closing his eyes too. but there terrible.... really need to take a class on facial animation and rigging alone. The biggest problem is time and the want to move on and do some scene objects for my reel or another character. I was coming up with ways of sort of unifying the sevaral pieces on his jacket, weaving skin around and stuff like that. also still want to do the wierd tatto arm thing across the back of the jacket, i thought of some cools stuff for it, i might, i dunno.

Nice nice nice ni ni ce ce work work wo wo rk rk. You can do some great poses now with a sword. Texture looks good, I like the design on the sword, the one by the handle. How bout some more renders of your guy from other sides. Great job so far.

Dude, Shag. Get your ass online so I can talk to you. :)

--Please note that all comments that follow are based in objectivity IE how to make what you have better not how to make it the way that I would do it. Also note that I wuv you--

The character is badass...I love the jacket with the skin stitching and the boots, both work well and well together. The proportion of the head to the body (intentionally small) is also a really nice touch, makes him look huge and menacing. Very Iain McCaig, very nice. In fact the head just rocks period. Really nice texture work on top of real nice modelling. Though I do concur with the Weilage that the eyes should be brought down just a little bit. You might even consider doing something like this (but with the blue even lighter/freaker):

http://xenaversity.hispeed.com/pictures/images/calllisto/callisto_white_eyes_closeup.jpg

The sword rocks. Seems to fit the character really well.

The chest needs work. Just bust out Anatomy for the Artist and ref the human male profile, just need to pull a couple verts to fix it, the geometry's there.

The arms look a little too beefy but that's just cause of the sleeves looking a little too form fitting...might want to consider straightening them out a bit and just having contours at the elbow and bicep. Might even be able to solve the whole thing by just scaling out the verts at the cuff.

The fingers are a little too round which makes them look a bit skinny but it's nearly impossible to do really nice hands low poly (unless you're Sean Weilage) since hands are such complicated forms. Also looks like there's a little texture issue where you seamed around the thumb but it's not very noticeable.

I actually really liked the swirl on the one arm :).
If it were my character would add one more element to push the colorscheme/design a little more. Specifically, I would do a blood red sash from his left shoulder to right hip that would also serve to fasten a scabbard for the sword to his body.

**end personal preference section**

Besides the chest all that stuff's just nitpicky (though insane monomeniacal attention to detail is what employers look for). ****in rocks. Sooo metal. :buttrock:

Oh yeah, when you get a chance can you jump online and gimme your guys' new phone #?

Thanks for the crit. Good stuff. Yeah that pictures is totaly how his eyes were in the dream. I have to agree with the arm thing, his hands looked dwarfed, but i know their the right size.. Its got to be because of the cuffs on the jacket. Some of his proportions are a bit off (you know me) which sucks. He originally wasn't going to have a sword, but i decided to make him one. I need to focus on some more scene objects, rather than characters and i sort of catered the sword to the character. I liked the skin swirl on the arm but i think It was a shitty execution on my part. Kind of a rush job. I moved the chest in and tried to fix that as best as possible with out distorting the texture or messing him up to much.

 This brotha freaks me out. I really like how he's progressed! I'm anxious to see the final renders of him! Of course, I still don't see any traces of my tatoo on his jacket....what.....is my half jap skin not good enough for him? Or is it because the tattoo is a girlish teal color? I swear it was supposed to be navy blue...I swear.

*awkward silence*

We were talking today about vast improvements from creating one model to the next, and it definitely shows with this character. I think it rocks. Are you going to animate him at all? I think it would be cool to see his attack move with his burley sword.....the ol' slice-dice-rip-pull action!
