The position of the gun is funny.. ;)

It's looking quite cool... are you just doing it out of your head or are you using references?

Otos

i had a reference for the feet, but the leg itself
is straight out of my mind (donīt know if
the sentence is right:rolleyes: )

Looks great!

Btw, a Mechwarrior is the guy who drives the mech, the proper name for a mech is BattleMech. :wavey:

i like it , the only thing I fix is the size of the fit , that is giving him a small base , if it would real , it would to fall down .

Other than that is great !!!!!

Looks neat!
Reminds me of ED209 (robocop) though.....

I have to agree, this is looking kew!

I can just picture those cables dangling as it moves ~

The detail is hella kew, but my only suggestion goes with what was said earlier, I wish there were more noticable joints for the toes/claws. I do notice the accordian cover, but something that flimsy wouldn't do any good for protection anywho. I think you should just keep to the open joint solution we currently see more of. :)

thanks for the comments!

i think you imagine a standard battle mech,
but i try to make a different one...

canīt explain it, but its different!

donīt know if you like it or not.

anyways the reason why i made this mech,
was to improve my modelling and i did...

new pics following tomorrow!

oh no, don't get me wrong, I think the model is hella kew! Great work! :buttrock:

I was just commenting on the joints for the toes. I think it could be tweaked there...

I can't wait to see more! so tomorrow you say, I'll be a watchin! :)

Otos

that was no crit to you!

it was just a pre-warning (is that word right?)

i think the upper body is a bit ugly
at my next render, but
it will change a few days later ;)

ahhhhh!!! LOL [it's been one of those days! ]

last night i thought about the construction
of a battle mech!
One thing of a standard mech is very stupid!
The cockpit is completely unprotected...

Then i started to think about my mech,
and how i can change that problem!

What i created, is sure not the prettiest
mech, but i think a "logical" mech!

I will post the render as soon as my computer
finished rendering!

Great work but...

I just wonder about those cords or whatever.

If you are in battle and some one cuts em off, what happens then?

Otos
05-15-2003, 11:45 AM
hmm youīre right, but it looks so cool

i think it giveīs the whole mech a more realistic look...

i dont know about the cockpit it just looks too small i know u wanted to make it look protected but itr just seems out of proportion. plus he cant see out of his left and right hand sides hed crash lol :D

looks cool but not much for a mech, as mentioned one litle thing and that mech would chrash. Look at todays tanks and stuff they donīt have things like that visible for one reason. Looking good otherwise we have a mech comp at www.eeye.us maybe you would like to join in :buttrock:

a few more comments please, or is it that bad?

blastzone
05-16-2003, 04:26 PM
i think the only other thing is its feet if your going for the same effect as a madcat with the feet the very ends of the @toes@ are angled down slightly
yours look a little too flat like a copper flat footed lol

The model really has some nice features. I like most of it.

The hoses definitely look like a weakness on a war machine, though.

I feel that the legs look overengineered for the small load they carry and that the forearms look out of proportion, too.

Without losing all your modeling, what if you changed the proportions of things like this?

Just a thought.

I was just about to post the same thing...yes..the upper torso of the mech is way out of proportion to the legs...it makes it look like a 30 ton mech sitting on 100 ton mech legs...very off. It looks like the mech is supposed to be a light mech/scout mech, so the small size is important for movement/mobility. Large legs like that would slow him down big time...no to mention resemble something like "beetlejuice" on the battlefield, if you get what I mean ;)

Other than that, it looks pretty good so far!

<edit>Oh, and maybe make the legs sit a bit farther apart...right now it looks like he would step on his own toes when he goes to turn! And maybe lose the cables on the legs, that would only tie him up, because with all the moving and what not, they would eventually wear down and break, causing a catastrophy for the pilot as he's bein chased down then...oops....no power...uh oh ;)</edit>

Otos

thx for comments, i will fix that!

webfox
05-16-2003, 07:59 PM
Well, there's nothing to fix, really. It's your design and, really, it's all a matter of personal preference.

I would just say that, as far as believability goes, design follows function.

Do a few sketches ahead of time. Decide if your mech is a heavy assault machine, a medium weight, or a recon model. Beef it up to make it tough or slim it down for fast movement. Soft parts get armor coverings and weapons or arms have to have attachment points that look like they can hold the servos to manipulate them in battle.

Also, consider the terrain it will be fighting in. You won't see a lot of spindley rocket pods and antennae in a wooded battlezone because they'd get torn off on a march, and you won't see big, hulking mechs in a swamp as they'd sink into the muck.

Also, figure out what time period you're looking at, too. The further into the future you go, the smaller the weapon pods become and the more the mechs look like oversized androids with smooth curves, not the chunky brick walls on stilts.

Planning ahead will save a lot of time later when you sit down to model.

It still looks cool, though, so keep at it.
