Student version? you mean, like a 'lite' version of 3ds MAX? or student discounted priced version of 3ds MAX?
there's 'lite' version of 3dsMAX called GMAX... its free, and there is no time limit on those.. but its bit limited... here's the url G-MAX (http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/)
and Student discounted version costs about 500$ USD i believe... here's the link... efollet (http://efollett.journeyed.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe?UID=2003051402205769&GEN0=&GEN1=&GEN2=EF439&GEN3=&GEN4=&GEN5=&GEN6=&GEN7=&GEN8=&GEN9=&TRAN85=Y&T1=94664843N+F&FNM=00&UREQA=2&UREQB=1&UREQC=3&UREQD=4)
hope that was what you were looking for.

I know that 3dstudio.nl sells a student version (complete version including CS and reactor) for 200 euro. I don't know if they also send it to the UK though and the site is in dutch, but you could try sending an email to studentenversie@3dstudio.nl, if they don't want to send it to you they might know where you can get one in the UK.

The student vesions of 3dsmax only work for 12 or 15 months.
After that, they are useless......

Thanks guys,
so even this one: 3dmax (http://efollett.journeyed.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe?UID=2003051402205769&GEN0=&GEN1=&GEN2=EF439&GEN3=&GEN4=&GEN5=&GEN6=&GEN7=&GEN8=&GEN9=&TRAN85=Y&T1=94664843N+F&FNM=00&UREQA=2&UREQB=1&UREQC=3&UREQD=4) is resticted?, what a pity...
Thanks,
Will
btw: in my first post i didn't mean 190 days, i should have put 15 months but i must have had something else on my mind at the time.

I'm fairly certain that the edu version of max that you linked to does not have a time restriction. Call the dealer to find out more.
It's a bit cheaper at Studica...

I must be confused. But the one you linked to is $499 and the one I linked to is $458, and $40 (small diff) cheaper. Anyway, it's not it is a permanent license, I just checked. You just can't make any comercial images with it. ie you can't make money off of it.

Also, you cannot upgrade an Edu version to a licensed (commercial) version later. You must by a completely new seat of max.
I never heard of a time restriction on the education package either.

ok, in the us, these are the following levels of max that I know of.
-commercial license: full price, full features, upgradeable*, no expiration*
-Educational license: $500 give or take, full features, upgradeable to newer educational versions, also (unless it changed) upgradeable to commercial license, no expiration*
-classroom license: don't know the pricing structure, full features, I believe it uses flexLM, so there may be mobility restrictions.
-student license: about $200, in the US AFAIK can only be obtained through a teaching institution, dunno if it winds up being tied to the schools flexLM server either, dunno about expiration
-demo license: full featured, 30 days use
-GMAX: limited features, doesn't expire
In europe, AFAIK you have much greater access to the $200 student version. I don't know what limitations are placed on it. You may also have reduced access to the $500 educational version.
