View Full Version : Animation: R&D clip
asparapani 05-14-2003, 04:08 AM Hello everyone.
I have made an animation clip awhile back here at Cinegroupe studios. The purpose of the animation test was to convince the producers to keyframe as opposed to mocap the upcoming movie currently in production (P3K: Pinocchio 3000), and to establish what kind of animation style the characters would have.
It took me about 6 working days. It is 100 % keyframmed and I had no reference. Straight ahead was the approach I used for this particular animation.
Any feed back would be great. Hope you all like it! :bounce:

Yep, I'm #1 lens flare fan. :) That's why I often have to remind myself not to use lens flare too much. It's excellent... I wonder if you can make a longer version of it or.. make other animation of it? :) I just really love it.. I think the robot is really cute... especially his/her character and behaviors. :buttrock:

I had a blast animating this character and establishing a certain style. He realy is flexible and has great proportions.
I try my best to give refined animation out of respect for my collegues in the industry. They produce great work and their contributions to the animation community are timeless performances. Seeing that, I should do no less. Animating is so fun!:bounce:

Wow!
Very inspiring work. I've run through it a hundred times to see how he shifts his weight using his hips and feet while he counteracts with his arms and I picked up some really nice things. Thank you very much for sharing!!!

Hot dang I would like to see a mo-cap actor just try and pull those moves off! Out freakin standing work there!

Hey I really like this. I do however have a problem with the animation. The bounce in just looks plain weird. I think he comes up way to fast. The impact just dosn't read. The offbalance dance is great, and the fall works nicely. The little grab for balance is a nice little touch. Glad to see you were able to talk them out of using mo-cap.
Damn I wish I could spend six days on a shot like this. I hate TV scheduals, it's just rush, rush, rush. You never get the time to really do a shot justice. I'd have to bang something like this off in a day. :banghead:
I'm glad to finally see some nice stuff from this project. There was a teaser trailer released that was horrible. I was hopeing that would not be a good representation of the quality of the actual project. This is the bar I would hope they would be shooting for.

Waoww very nice work man :D
I just have one thing to say, when he falls to ground, he may fall quicker, because of those fast and snappy movements which are very cool.
Keep up the great work :bounce:

Hey man thanks for your critics.
Ya I'm happy that Cinegroupe went with the keyframmed approach aswell. It's gonna pay off in the end when all the elements are together.
As most animators, I'm not to fond of the tv series medium either. Mainly because of the nature of the biz, unrefined and rushed all the time.
Believe the trailer you saw, and the film have NOTHING to do with each other. What you saw was a promo the company did to pitch the idea. Wait and see in the coming months. I'm realy glad and proud to be part of this film.
cheers!

Thanks for your two cents DarkSun...(love the name by the way)
I agree with you at the end of the clip, it's the only thing i'm not happy with. But hey, are artists ever happy with heir craft?
Cheers!

Again thanks for you wonderful comments!
I've been animating for about 4 years now. Most of it I've picked up on my own. No classical training for me. I don't even know how to draw well. Go figure....

I like it all, except the fall at the end. It doesn't look like he actually falls, more like he kicks himself over on purpose (upon closer examination thats exactly what he does)
Maybe videotape yourself losing your balance like that for reference, on a mattress or something.
Really good work though. Lots of great personality in taht little guy.
