JoelOtron 05-13-2003, 10:49 PM Has anyone created a hotkey chart that is coherent for Cinema 4d? it would really come in handy.

Thanks--your the best
So many times I forget a key command and then never bother looking for it in the command manager.
Would be cool if you could print the command manager lists.

No problem:thumbsup:
Well then check out the V7 CD. Look in: Misc/misc/Shortcuts.xls. I haven't look for it on the V8 CD yet but grab your 7 and have a look. It has all of em'.

The shortcuts are stored in Prefs/c4d_shortcuts.res
It's a text file...

Thanks DeltaADMIN
Aries: the pref file you speak of isn't the most intuitive list I've ever seen--hard to look at, but thanks
I think one of us with a graphic design background could put a pdf together organized into specific modelling and animation (etc) categories. Perhaps I will do this soon once I get a break.
I'd like to have something thats better than the spreadsheet or cramped list that comes with c4d.

Already started on it. I was thinking people should post a list of the commands they use most often so I can compile a list for everyone. What do you think?

Cool!
I would love a cheat sheet I can print out and prop up on top of my monitor or something or like a folding card like Adobe's hot key cards.

Or.. you can go to Preferences / Interface and pick Help Text in Status Bar...
That will display all the shortcuts near the command.. :)

Great.
OK...so if there are any commands that anyone would like on the sheet (other than the ones previously listed above) list them here and I will include them. And look for the finished sheet sometime next week.

Thats cool, but my preference would be to have something printed, clear, and always available so all I had to do is glance rather than click and close, click and close. Thats just me though.

I would like to see ALL of them if possible--including all the subtle bhodinut SLA ones and the other module specific ones as well. But beggars can't be choosers...
yeah vestan that bhodi chart is looking kinda old on my desktop.
I would love a cheat sheet like that.
its a great Idea.

The bhodi chart is the perfect complement to a hot key chart--maybe pronted on the back or as a 2-page spread--noise choices on one page, key commands on the other side of the spread.

An excellent idea! This is something I see as an omission in the manual.
VestanPance-
'O' really isn't 'zoom' it's Frame Active Object. I know it zooms in on the object but I think it's best to watch the terminology.
S - Frame Active Elements (selected polys, points, etc.)
H - Frame Scene Without Camera/Lights
M+Left Drag Selection - Zoom to selection
M+Left Click - Zoom in 25%
M+Right Click - Zoom out 25%
(M key zooms... changes focal length, not camera position)
For the number keys, 1,2,3... shouldn't "+LMB/RMB" for Left/Right Mouse Button be added to show they are used together?
2+LMB is a camera move, not a zoom. 2+RMB is a zoom. Zoom changes the FOCAL LENGTH OF THE LENS, move changes the POSITION OF THE CAMERA... aka camera dolly.
F1 Perspective View
F2 Top View
F3 Side View
F4 Front View
F5 Multi View
(Why doesn't Maxon label the viewports?)
Shift+Left Click - Select multiple elements/objects
Ctrl+Left Click - Deselect elements/objects
What about PC vs. MAC? I don't have a Command or Return key.
Hmmmm..... guess that's about all I can think of for now in my noobiness.

Actually that list is from V7.3 and it did in fact zoom the camera. (Extremely annoying by the way)

Of course. We all know that our individual OS is by far superior to any other....but I will make it for both OSs. We all want it to be PC! Err...ummm...[P]olitically [C]orrect. ;)
Thanks for the help. It is greatly appreciated!
the only difference between the mac and pc layouts as far as I know is the alt is called option.
I mean the only real differences are names and everyone can figure those out easily enough.
its not like Macs or pcs have like 10 extra keys.
heck they both use qwerty keyboards. It isnt like one uses is dvorak or what ever its called, and one the qwerty.

Hi there, sorry for picking this old thread up again, but I find the viewport navigation in C4D quite unconfortable when compared to all other packages where you do all camera movements with only one key +LMB (orbit), +MMB (dolly), +RMB (move). Wouldn't this be much better to have in C4D?

Any option to set the camera behaviors would be great. I love the way Wings let's you choose Maya, Max, Mirai camera modes...
It would also ease the transition for all the people that seem to be picking up C4D these days ;)
The reversed camera rotation
(left<-->right) drives me crazy when switching between apps.
