View Full Version : Wings3D to AM?
dragonfollower 05-13-2003, 07:46 PM So, can anyone tell me what kind of models you can import into AM from Wings3D? Can they be characters or will this only work with architectual stuff?

Here's a fly I did in Wings and then imported into A:M

And here's a robot:

You just need to keep a close eye on the polygons you form (make sure they are all 4 sided, or if you know you need to have a few five-sided ones remember where they are and make sure to assign them as 5 point patches in AM)... Also, watch the flow of your edge loops. Good loops=good splines.
You may have to do some spline breaking and reconnecting, but the results aren't bad. I've had better luck doing import as an OBJ instead of using the A:M export in Wings. The OBJ importer plugin for AM also brings in groups assigned as materials and maps.
U can import any model from Wings3D. But if itīs a model with alot of smoothness. There willbe a great lot of tweaking in A:M on it.
And thatīs why I wrote, wings could be use to make simple architectural shapes and other things. That would otherwise be time consuming to do in Animation Master.:)
