View Full Version : Animating an aircraft flight, how?

I want to make an animation with 3DS MAX, where a fighter makes fast and hard manoeuvers. The problem is how to do it so that it looks realistic, ie. how to create a realistic flight path. After digging up the subject, I realized I could use MAX's motion capture features with my joystick. Unfortunately it wasn't the best solution... it works in world axis, meaning that it can't use the aircraft's local axis (making turns a pain in the arse). I figured that the best way to do this would be using a plugin to do it then, I thought someone must have made such a modification to allow using the local axis of the object... unfortunately I didn't find but one, which was actually perfect for my purposes but turned out it ran only with MAX R3 :( and of course I have R4. Tried it and didn't work... now I'm out of ideas how to do it with relatively small amount of work. I definitely don't want to do it manually keyframing everything.

Ideas?

just create a spline path and on the motion panel assign a Constraign Path controler for the position of your aircraft, then is a question of playing with the controler settings.
refer to Max help if you have any problems...

Nice town tampere!
