Here we go !

There are still three weeks left and i want to use that time
to contribute an image to this challenge.
I hab really fun during the StrangeBehavior-challenge and so
i hope i will have enough time to finish this.

my idea is about a space pirat an his pet. :) he has
just found a treasure on a dangerous planet and now he is flying home
with the ...maybe jems ?... and his new friend, the sweet alien creature.

i´ve done a little sketch and now i will think about perspective,
composition.. just as the design of the space ship and the two
characters, nothing is really set.

finally some progress. Unfortunately right after my start i had to
work for some days, but i think the next days i will have some time.
There might be chance i can still finish this. ;)

i did a lot of changes to the picture and i´m happy with this right now.
still many things to fix and i have to work on the design of the
pirat, the alien and a lot of stuff in the scene.

some more thoughts about the story:
the pirat was on a planet where he found a treasure, the
gem you can see in his hand. he also got to know his new pet.
so on his way back, they are sitting in the cockpit and are really
happy about their friendship and their capture.
what they do not know is there is a third creature on the ship...

i continued working on the scene and made a lot of changes.
most important ones: the alien has changed sides again,
(actually it changed already several times since the last update :D )
i extended the canvas and the seat ist now smaller.

I think I like the closer shot, with the creature on his left shoulder and the half smile better than the newest concept. Really cool concept though; can't wait to see some models and textures.

a new version with some more thoughts about the designs
of the main characters and more stuff lying around...
used photo refs for the pirat, especially the hands.
some things may not be so easy to recognize so will go
for the final lineart as the next big step.

as you see i stick to version with the alien on that shoulder, it just feels better for me.
well, some things changed as the pose of the pet and some are still not final
like the face expression of the pirat. hope you like it.

Another color-scale, then in the Strange-behaviour entry would have been nice and fresh ;).
But i guess the quality will be nice anyway.

I think it will not be readable that the animal on the pirat's shoulder is an alien from the trip he took with him home, but it isn't important in the end. There is an interaction, a story, and there will be lot's of details , too, i hope. ;)

get a good impression where this picture
could go.

still adjusting the color, tomorrow i will have to start with some details
and rendering.

yeah, i know the colors and the values are similar.. but it is not the really same color-scale, i think.
the strange behavior was more green-red, this time its more yellow-blue... and the
whole scene got a colder mood...
well, i will work on the difference ;)

i agree with your last statements and i will see how much details i will be able to paint in the next days.

who wouldn´t like to have a cool spaceship, a big gemstone and a strange alien pet ? ;)
the pirat has achieved his goal and can return home. i hope i can capture his
emotion in the final image.

time is really a problem this time, i won´t even be able to work the whole time on this.. =|

its hard to tell if your own image works when you were starring at it for so long..
i allways find myself changing between enthusiasm and desperation, especially

Captain´s Log //13.5.2083 //53:38:34

The old guy was right about the map. I just found the treasure of the planet Serngobah.
Its the biggest diamond of this kind i´ve ever seen...might be the last one, which didn´t
get in the hand of the royal hunters.
On the planet i also met a strange little creature...never heard of vertebrates in this system.
It followed me and got on board, when i returned with the stone. Seems to be as crazy about
these glittering things as i am. I named him "Blackeye" and decided to let him come with me...i can
always use some company on these long routes through space.
I have to quit here... something is wrong with the rear engine and i´ll have to
check that. I will continue with a detailled report after we have switched into hyperspace.
