View Full Version : Clan Ghost Bear Timberwolf
Hollis J Wood 05-13-2003, 02:17 PM HI it has been a while since I posted anything here so I thought I would put this up, I started making this for a size comparison with a building a I was working on, this was supposed to be a low poly mech but the more I worked on it the more I wanted to add and the more I added the more I wanted to work on it, so now with out the missiles it is sitting at around 450 000 poly, and I am only half done. I hope you like this I have been working on it for about a month now.

wow that's pretty amazing :D my favourite part has to be the detail around the feet, it gives the model plenty of scale. i agree with ninjacore, it would be great to see the same level of detail across the model.
could you tell us what needs to be done from this point?

Stunning work! Even though I'm usually quite partial to gigantic robots with guns, the sense of scale in these images is incredible!
Just a question: What a about the "arms"? They look quite fragile and not at all like they could carry those heavy weapons - but hey, I have no clue about mechas :D

Looks great! Give me real mech over a "mecha" any day! :buttrock:
You do know you'll have to texture and animate it now, don't you? ;)
I love this kind of work and yours is going to be great . You could give some details on the legs and the base of the cockpitch as you gave on the foot , that is looking realy good>
Keep it up !!!!

ARGHUUUUUUUUUUG, I had my apartment broken into yesturday while my wife and I were out and had my COmputers stolen, gone both of them, so work last night really sucked, but when I got home this morning to my wonder the police called saying they found them and arrested the guy with them, I was so happy I could have kissed Hobbes:wha: but my happiness did not last long my tower was all that they got back of my system, ann the innards, HD sound card vid card etx were gone even the power supply, my wifes while system was gotten back though, I guess they did not want her P2 350, any way I thought atleast my models were safe on my ZIP disc, but NOOOOOOOO:doh: I backed up my WIPs before my wife and I went out and did not take it out of the machine, so all my unfinnished meshes are GONEZO!!!!!!
but atleast I got my Thermaltake tower back, I am soooo mad I could just kill every one on the planet but I guess I will just have to live with it, I think I have a couple of meshes at other peoples places but I will have to hunt, but not any of my 4 new ones though, so I will b e very busy redoing all my background meshes and D/L the others but the large file ones like my Timberwolf and Vulture I think will be a long time comming.

I'd buy you a brew if I could

Thanks man the computer store opens in about 3 hours so I should be up and running again by about noon, till then I have my laptop to play with, which thankfully I hade locked up in my gun locker, so hopefully I can get the motivation to get working on something, but loosing my Timberwolf kind of took the wind out of my sails as it is the longest model I have ever worked on.

Good idea to get cranking on a new project. I guess you could look at it as a clean slate scenario - I used to kill off all of my flash work and start fresh.
My burner is working overtime tonight.

Well I am back up and running I just finnished talking to the police and my insurance, the guy is not tellin where the parts are soI can kiss them all good by, but my insurance will cover half the value, since they say parts come down in price all the time and even though I have all the receipts I cant prove to them exactly what I had in my machine, so I am going to talk to my lawyer, since I use this as an other source of income, talking to him on the phone he thinks I can gat about 20% more out of them due to there telling me I only get half is causing my emotional distress

WOWOWOWOWOW HOW MUCH DO I LOVE MY WIFE
and yes this is in the right forum.
I just got a gift from her today, a couple of weeks ago she decided that since I am famous for not saving my work, and I have been working on this forever and it is all I think about, when I got up to get ready for work she got on my computer and saved my mesh to a CD and took it to school with her and put it in her locker with out telling me, well she just remembered that she had it today the last day before her exams and the end of her schooling, so I am back in it, have to redo all my back torso work but WOW I LOVE MY WIFE!!!!
here is an update of what I have done since wife gave my mech back.

Phew,
you lucky one. Hrhrh! I hadnt so much luck with my TIE Fighter model, when my harddisk crashed. Anyway... I have found an old version of my Madcat Battlemech. I thought, maybe you are interested to see it, because your mech still looks good, but has a lot of wrong details.
Oh and try to search for pictures of the FASA Madcat Model Kit from Horizon (1992). Its very rare, but its the only official and huge Madcat Model Kit available. Or contact me, if I should send u some.
Hope I could help u a bit...:D

Thats a great model but I am not going for the stock Timberwolf, this is my varient, if you look on the net you will find about 30 bifferent mechs with slight changes depending on who did the mech, and as in the BT universe thay even say that every clan or house has slight modifications to their mechs, thisone I am making is a C&C varient wich is slightly bigger about 10 more tonnes and is sizeda slight bigger, like the command section is longer to accomidate the secone seat and C&C controls etc.
Also I have the Compendium which has the model it is so I am using that as a base ror my mech.
YOur mesh is fantastic by the way and I would love to get e copy, it is amazing how you did it.

Oh,
sorry! I didnt know that every clan can modifiy the shape...and by the way... And you are right, there are many many variantions of the Madcat (timberwolf) out there. Look even on the Model Kit Picture you have uploaded. Did you noticed the big difference between the bottom legs (side view compared the the other views). Weird he? But the model kit itself looks like the right part of the picture.
Oh, sure, u can have my old version...i am building already a much better one. I am uploading it right now....will take 10 mins or so. Oha nd please notice...this is the old version (maya 3.x format or so) and it has some "bad geometry". Also, this cant be called texturing. :D
Madcat 3D Model (http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~migi/madcat_old.rar)
And in my new version, I fixed nearly all and every little edge is beveled...here are 2 pics...

And REALLY REALLY thanks for the model, I am going to use it as a comparison for the stock Timberwolf and the C&C.

WEll I just found a neat little roll out in Max called Ring Array and boy did it make my jobe a lot easier, took minutes instead of an hour getting all the boxes just right in a ring for the torso pivot.

wow, i never knew they were meant to be so big. and isn't this a madcat?
Hollis J Wood
06-08-2003, 04:38 AM
The Real name for the design is Timberwolf, but when the Phalen Kell, who was the first Inner Sphere Mechwarrior to see one, his targeting computer had never seen this design before so it tried to compair it to the Marauder cause of the arms and legs and the Catapult, due to the body shape and the missile launchers, hence MAD/CAT or MADCAT.

Hi,
its me again! I am just wondering a bit, why your model has over 600.000 polys?! Thats many... :D . Oh and could please post some wireframe shots by the way?
Bye Migi
Hollis J Wood
06-10-2003, 10:15 AM
well the missiles are about 160 000 for all 30 of them as I modeled the insides of them too, there is a lot of detail that I have added that no one will see unless they have the mesh, but I know it is there and that is all that counts to me.
Here is a upper torso wireframe for you.

looks very good so far...
much better than mine!
iīm looking forward to the final mech!
