CGTalk - polygon count + knife

hey, 2 very basic questions:
1) where can i see the polygon count, or number of vertices selected etc in maya?

2) is there a "knife" tool in maya? (like the one in lightwave that cuts through polygons on an axis (as opposed to using the split polygon tool to trace right around an area)

1.) display/heads up display/poly count

2.) edit polygons/cut faces tool
