I don't actually know anything about this space opera thingy but this is the first thing that came in mind about humans interacting with aliens.
This is a quicky sketch of a 3D scene that I will try to get done.

Nice that you're in :scream: - and a great funny Concept you have there :)
The coolest Thing is the T-Shirt of the Alien - I hope it will still appear on your Final Image!
Good Luck to you!

Here are the characters for this scene modeled in 3dsmax6. I did these with the line tool and Surfaced them and applied a MeshSmooth modifier. It's lit with one spotlight and a global lighting system.

Nice work so far! The sketch was a little rough, but now that you've fleshed out your figures and faces the way you want them in 3D, they look terrific (and very funny.) Looking forward to seeing the rest of it come together. Good luck!

Yeah the sketch is "a bit" rough. I Practically threw it together in the heat of the moment just to capture the picture I had in my mind. And I was so excited and eager to get to the modeling stuff :D
Now I just hope I don't try to over do this or spoil it by some other way. :)

Ok, so I added some various restaurant related stuff to the table, and the grid/fence thingy to the back. Still needs fork and a knife, some food for the humans plate, napkins, and something nice to the background.
Hey Atte, really cool and fun concept !! great!! like a lot your idea. The design and models for your characters are looking really well!! Mayebe you need to move a bit the camera angle to not put the fence line over the alien mouth, only a comment :) Again , great work!! and looking forward for more updates! Cheers mate!

Thanks for the good comment, I didn't notice that the fence goes like that :D Maybe just I'll just move it to some direction because I'm so emotionally attached to the camera angle :D

Excellent concept! Your classic cafe environment provides an accessible scene for the alien twist - a well-framed snapshot of an otherwise mundane table activity. Anxious to see what direction you take this piece. Good luck!

Earlier today, My computer decided to freeze up, and ofcourse it decided to do that while i was saving my work in 3dsMax. So now the file is corrupted beyond repair and the Autobak folder contains three blank max files. Which is great. :(
Now I have to do some backtracking and try to rebuild the scene according to the already rendered WIP images. Fortunately, the characters and the sofa were saved in different files so I only need to build the restaurant stuff AGAIN.

I managed to rebuild the scene after the crash/corruption experience. Now I'm starting to give materials to the stuff in the scene. I'm going to try and keep the Comic style going in the textures/materials.

I'm glad you got your technical problem sorted out Atte. I really like your latest wip with the food on the guys plate grabing the ketchup bottle, very nice :). I tink moving the fence up also helped the compo alot. Watching for updates!

Hi apach3
This has got to be one of the funniest entries here.
Great modeling. The alien chicken stealing the sauce was the last drop :D
Loving it.
Thing about these huge 3D suites is that probably sooner or later it's going to crash
and take your work I think. XSI seems to do a nice backup before crashing.
But I wouldn't be 100% confident as well. You know it's amazing how all 3D apps crash sooner or later.
I usuallly save my work incrementally (add a number at the end - keep saving and adding +1)
Some people hate it, say it's like having a twitch etc etc
Any case hope you recover everything and best of luck to you.
Hey Atte, I really glad that you can rescue your great scene mate :) Love the "chicken-octopus live dish" hahahahaha , amazing touch!! Cheers mate! :beer

That's a pretty cool idea, Atte! Can't wait to see how it will look in colour and more detail :)

I started to test some colours and put textures here and there. The Alien has the "I want to believe" shirt on now, too bad it got hidden behind the burger and hands...

I'm very satisfied with this pic. I just have a bad habit of trying to "over do" stuff, so I'm hoping this would also be a lesson for me to learn my limits, if you know what I mean :)

Just adding some more colours and a UFO behind the window. Tell me, did i go too far? I was thinking of painting the background and blurring it just a little bit for a nice illusion of depth. Oh yes, and the food with tentacles (the purple pile) is going to have a new texture, now it's just noise.

I scrapped the UFO from behind the glass and made a cityscape background that has all the UFOs this pic needs. Better pick up the pace in finishing this Pic :)

A bigger picture this time for claritys sake. :) I've been messing around with the lighting a little bit, not one of my strengths... And created the Soda cups because there just has to be soda. The reads AddiTives, not Addictive in case you were wondering :)

This is a funny concept and I like your comic style.
Humourous expressions and the human's lunch saucing itself......gold!
Looking forward to seeing you polish this off and get past the finish line.
Best of luck!

Rudolf has arrived to Earth as an exchange student and made friends with Andy. They have known for a while and have decided that this beatiful morning they would go out, and introduce Rudolf to the local Cuisine. After some doubt, Andy agreed that if Rudolf will eat a Hamburger, Andy will try something that Rudolf would gladly eat. And as we know, Ketchup makes everything taste good.
This is the first thing that came in mind from the phrase, "Humans and aliens interacting". I was so excited to start modeling this that I had to force myself to draw a sketch first. Changes from the last WIP are mostly just tiny things like the Soda cup Straws that were too thin, and upping the sample rates higher. And lastly, I did toned down the blueness of the pic in Photoshop.
