Personally I think the lighting in this scene is killing it...you might need some better texturing on objects too...the apples texture looks fine to me....but the scene, there just isn't something right going on there. Keep working on it.

i ll work on it (textures and lights)

this one was done before seeing post so nothing more on the pic, juste a little lighter...

Good composition, nova!
But the reaction to the light ( I mean the highlightsize may be smaler on the coffee machine). The plate is almost grey; could you push a little more the specularity?
You'll get more peps in the picture with a little Zblur and a halo around the highlights... Go on!

Keep the sunshine in as a main light.
If you chose the lamp you need some transluscence on the"abajour" ( tu vois c'que j'veux dire...)
The shadows doesn't have to stay allways black.
the plate is lighter, ok, but now is the bottom of the apples too dark.
Let's imagine how real light would spread.
If you don't use radiosity you can still fake with a liht undeu the plate (with decay)
Did you see the light tutorial (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24821&highlight=tutorial) of ila_solomon?

keep on

Take a look at this: http://nicolaslesaffre.free.fr/12.htm
Use it as reference for your lightning

Much better but....

- The outside light is too white (seems to be a shoot in a studio with white walls)
- Check the textures of the walls, it's like a rusted metal
- Check the apple in the front, it looks like an apricot.
- the coffee machine is cgi.

Keep on
