Hello everyone!
Here's my new wip. It a long-term painting, that i pressume will be an essence of today my skills in horror art. I have my interest in polishing the dark art, in achieving the real HORROR!
I'm a H.P.Lovecraft's fan  and it's not the first time i'm trying to illustrate his storyes.
So.. here's my first sketch and actual wip that i have so far...

Yes definitely the first image looks better, it looks more horror in that. The coloring looks better to me in the first one too.

ooh the lightning can be used very well to your advantage in the third image, have some good illumination going on the creatures back, and some shadowy effects on the frontside to give it that dark evil nature.

I know you are probably going to hate me for this but I still like the first one better. lol It just feels much more eerie to me and I do like the lighting in the first one as well. Not saying your other ones arent nice just that I think the first is the more creepy one.

I think you need to think about the pose of Dagon, I think this is the reason most people prefer the first image the most it has more energy to it rather than the still poses of the next few.
Also the lone figure while giving scale is also too still, too statuesque, liven it up a bit, maybe the figure has a torch and is shining it upon the creature, maybe he's fallen to his knees in awe and fear, maybe he's fleeing from the scene or hiding behind something?
The last image has some great lighting and the second last great rain but you're doing lots of different versions without really changing the things that are problematic.
Place yourself in the scene. Where are you standing, where is the creature, what is it doing? What are you doing? What is the lighting like, what feelings are coming over you, what's causing those feelings? the cold, the unearthliness of the creature?
