Maya used to center the pivot automaticly, but now for some reason its always on one side when selecting an object
Thanks

thanks
but i know about center pivot, its only that im tired of always having to center my pivot every time i pick a new object
i knew a way to always have it in the center at any object selected without having to manually change it at every turn
what was it again ?

I'd like an answer to this aswell... I always helped myself by setting up a hotkey for the "center pivot" tool, but it really does get annoying when you have a lot of objects...

it sounds like your picking a piece of a grouped object with history if your pivot is on one side. Your pivot should be in the middle of an object already.
Try looking in your tool preferences window -> settings/preferences (either) Tool-Settings or preferences. reset your tools settings to the default world, or settings. I think you all modified your preferences at some-point. I would go through your regular preferences one by one, and try to figure out where the change may have occurred first.
I know in Gnomon Organic Modeling 1 A.Alvarez changes the pivot point to react in a way that is helpful in that particular model, but I don't think that change translates out of that model into the system preferences. I have no other ideas on how to help your problem. Sorry.

the most important thing ive learned in gnomon school so far is how to really use the pivot point to speed things up, that little guy does wonders when you use him right

there is a script called Pivot Tool Box on high end for tons of pivot related scripts -by the same guy that did CPS.
objects created by default have their pivot centered to their bounding box.
a group always has its pivot point at the origin, regardless of the objects inside it. This is actually very good i think, but if you dont like it...go into the group options box.

Elfufu, could you please explain what you mean by:
"...use the pivot point to speed things up, that little guy does wonders when you use him right."
What type of things are you using it for?

i am sure he means things like the scale tool to flatten objects to one axis or for mirror modelling....or snapping componets to the same axis....or locking the componets pivot so that any additonal pivots use the exact same pivot point....

Ah, I see. Thanks

Yeah, Alex from Gnomon explained that in organic modeling CD1.
When modeling an head he shows you that the position of the pivot affects the scaling of control vertex and this is crucial for certain area of your model like the forehead.
I try having my pivot point at (0,0,0) when doing that

FYI: Verts = Vertices
You can fix pivots this way…:
If you have some verts selected hit insert to move the pivot. (I'm sure you know this.)
What you might not know is if you click on the little yellow dot in the middle of the Move Pilot thing it will fill in. Then hit insert to turn of the move pivot tool and behold! Now all the verts will use this as the center to pivot to rotate or scale around.

Filled
Hit insert and click on the circle and it should go back to a hollow circle, thus turning of this nifty feature.

Not Filled
Don't know if that helps.
