Hey gang,

Before I go and buy any books I would like your opinion.

I have the basics of modeling down and now I am looking to learn how to light a scene and I saw this book on Amazon:

Digital Lighting & Rendering
by Jeremy Birn, George Maestri (Editor)

Would you guys recommend it or should I buy something else?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't read the book but it is on my "To-Buy" list very high. What I heard it is very detailed and subject is well covered from the production point of view.

Jeremy Birn has his own discussion forum at http://www.3d-discussion.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=1 and some good tutorials at 3drender.com. I think he works now at Pixar and is also member of cgtalk.

I find that book and its companions - Texture & Painting, and new one based on Compositing and composition I think. - they are all excellent. They talk generally and not software specific.

I have Digital Lighting & Rendering, it's excellent.
I also Digital Texture & Painting, that one is less usefull. You could do a search on CGTalk, it has been discussed before.
