View Full Version : need some help on sky painting
olli20 04-18-2008, 12:13 AM hi!
I`ve attached an image of a sky that im painting on. It will later be used for an mattepainting , so i have to push it more to realism.
Its a bit stylized in terms of colors and cloud formation but it has to be a bit more fotoreal.
I need some critics to get it in the right direction!
sorry painting is sometimes a little rough
thanks

This is actually lookin pretty nice. You have done the hard bit in getting a sky that works in terms of colour and value, and has depth and appropriate looking perspective (which can be really difficult with such abstract shapes).
I think you need to go take a look at some reference and just have a look at exactly what level of detail you need to make it work, and what kind of edge quality clouds have in reality.
I dont think this is far off, it just will take time to bring it to the finish you require. You have all the foundations there, so just dont compromise that as you detail it and you should be fine. Keep posting some WIP shots, it'll be interesting to see where this goes.
Nick
EDIT: Might be worth pushing the contrast a bit, especially in the whites, because it'll help the feeling of light.
