My latest matte, unfortunately the low angle cuts the depth of the image abit with the castle and hill in front. But yet i think the eye follows a nice and simple path from the dead silent village to the sun touched castle early at dawn.

yep the glow is intentional, i wanted it to have a story feeling to it..

Hi Levi,

Another great piece (hey where's the contest entry?? tut,tut :) )

Looks very interesting, i feel the mid ground houses/huts (at the bottom of the path) are too low in contrast and almost fail to read against the background tarrain. Also be nice to have a sutble winding path that links the village and castle, nothing too obvious, just real sutble and suggestive. Any trees or bushes maybe??

So do we get to see a breakdown split of refs?? :)

Thumbs up.

Edit: whats that bridge leading to on the rock?

Dave.

thanks!

ah yeah i gave the village slightly bit more light. I did think about doing a path up but in the back of my head there was a voice screaming "cliché" i dont know why really but from a storytelling perspective it would seem very standard and somehow dull. So why not break it :)

well i dont know about the challenge, have alot of projects going :/

Yeh it is very cliche, but that's not always bad, so long as you dont have the distinctive snakey pearl white ribbon that winds its way up like some scene from the land of Oz then i think it will be ok. I mean come on, you have a village and castle, the path is like a missing piece of the puzzle :) and everything works in threes :) You dont even need to really show the path all that much, just a sutble shadow where it dips slightly, also maybe add foilage that follows the general direction, suggestive hints at a path.

Also given the angle of the sun, which seems to be behind us slightly to the right, would we see more illumination against the village?

Dave.
