View Full Version : Options for rendering instanced splines

Hi all - hope someone can help.

I've got a Mograph setup where a Tracer object is connecting a bunch of nulls in a cloner. An Instance object is then giving me the history of this tracer as it moves & scales. However, I can't seem to get a render of the instance object using any of the normal methods - Sketch just gives me the tracer object and not the instances, and if I put the instance in a SweepNurbs Object only the oldest instance is rendered.

I've tried baking the Cloner & Instance objects as recommended in the help guides.

My heirarchy is like this:

Cloner
- nulls

Effectors...

Tracer

SweepNURBS
- Circle
- Instance Object

This is a preview of what I get (1.7Mb, with sound) (http://homepage.mac.com/chrissyboy/.Movies/spline_problems.mov)

Thanks for any clues - Chris

Hi Chris,

Is this what you are after?

Double nested Cloner: Single generator for the Tracer Nulls.
Parent Cloner for the repeater.
Random Effector.

Instance Object referencing The Parent Cloner.

Cheers, Alan.
File attached; ??? Hold that result. Something not quite right. I'll check back soon.

To render out with sketch lines make the Instance object a child of a spline mask and if you're using sketch style tags stick that on the spline mask. If you want sweeps use Michael Welters spline connector plugin instead of the spline mask.

Sorry Chris, first brainfart of the day. The Instance is just referencing the full Cloner not the Tracer "sweep spline".

Try this one. The Tracer is set to 'Handle Cloners: Clones of Clones'.

Hopefully this is nearer.
Cheers, Alan.

Great! JDP, both of these work, now I have two choices instead of none ;-) I'd tried the ConnectObject but totally forgot about SplineConnector, this is perfect.

Alan, your setup is tricky, but I like it! I think I see what you're doing, but there may have been some confusion, I'm talking about the Mograph Instance Object, rather than the modelling Instance object. Not sure why Maxon couldn't think up another name for this one, 'History Object' would have done and avoided confusion.

But thanks to both of you for the hints.

Cheers - Chris

Aaah! So it was only half a brainfart. I don't feel so bad now. ;)

Looks like JDP has the prize for today. Glad you have a solution.

Cheers, Alan.
