View Full Version : Character: Ed's Traits
aehrick 05-13-2003, 12:48 AM I have this character in mind that's going to play the key role my next 3D animation. I drew hundreds of faces, but I just can't get the image on paper to resemble his important character traits.
I tried something different today using modelling clay (w00t! analog modelling!). Back to the very basics of 3D, getting dirty with blue clay.
Before I tell you what he's really like, please tell me what you think, judging his appearance. Help me out and tell me what the impression you get from this character. Is he happy, sad, smart, mean, a pimp or really a girl. Let all those prejustist emotions erupt and tell me what this sucker really is, straight up, so I can figure out what's wrong with it.

This is my first WIP post on CGTalk, but please do not be gentle with critiques. The dead-on-hammer is the best approach to get a nail thru the board. Thanx a bunch // Aehrick.

he looks like a 35 to 50 yr old man who is generally content with his life, working at some place where lifting thigs is comon,
he likes to eat a bit, and mabe drink a beer or wine,..
he can go either the sport beer pub way, or
wine and fine music, i can see him hanging around with a bunch of mates playing poker. doesnt have a wife
or if he does he doesnt have sex with her anymore cause he's just not interested.
just living life contentedly,.. the open eyes speak volumes of innocence and nievety
he kind of reminds me of the blue dude in the animated show Trapdoor from england. Burt..
"oh pipe down boney" loll, classic show that

I am not really getting a person from this figure, I think it looks more like some sort of happy frog that has evolved a little. his head even stick forward a little like a frogs.
Is this an actual model or is it just a pic of some clay. Because if that is a model that is really good looking.
Nice work:thumbsup:

Thx you guys. Nice feedback TyKeil, I see what u mean, and it's not at all what I want him to be. Let's hope someone else has sth to say about him before I post his desired traits. // Aehrick.
P.S. Flash Frog - Do you have an obsession with frogs? :p It really is clay. Sticky, stinky, blue modelling clay.

The only things that come to mind are: oblivious, dumb, a whole lotta rocks in his head, a simpleton. -Get my drift?

Yup. I'm on a wrong track here. Back to the clay tonight. The character I'm looking for is not dumb, he just doesn't care. He's a spectator to life. A little slow with the motion, hence his big belly and the short legs, but if he'd want to, he could be a mean MTF. He shouldn't be old either, rather somewhere between 12 and 15, but not human. He's depressed too. Not much happiness going around at his place.
Any suggestions how I could alter this fella to look more like the description up here? Or should I smash his head and start from scratch? // Aehrick.

Forget his age. Can be anywhere from 12 to 25. // Aehrick.

Wow! Nice... say, what's the purpose of this big blue fellow? Some imaginary friend or something like that? :p
Nice going though :)
