Pablo Gentile is entered in the "Uplift Universe Challenge" update: View Challenge Page (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/uplift_universe/view_entries.php?challenger=15361)
Latest Update: Final Image: Where the hell you said we'll go?
04-16-2008, 06:03 PM
I'm entering this challenge to learn, i made a little experience in vector illustration, but i still don't grasp this "digital painting" techique, and i love it, so i'll learn as i go.
Here is my first concept, a human and a neo-chimp, by now, on some kind of motorcycle. Thinking about the set up and more-alien aliens to add.
Thanks in advance!

Hi there. Refining the concept. A very "diverse" group of human, neo-chimp and aliens in a frentic race, perhaps, escaping, on an alien planet.
Ok, i'm not discovering the powder here... but still working.
Hey Pablo, nice sketch! I like the perspective on your image, cool!! :D Good luck and waiting for more updates on your concept!!

Ok, ok, i know i'm pretty late... (been very busy) but i'll keep going anyway.
First environment concept... a very "classic" arrangement with the "twin moons" thingy... nothing special i know.

Hi Fernando, thanks for your support.
Is a bit difficult for me to keep "on the road" with this contest 'cos i'm a bit busy, but i'll keep going anyway.

And the first test ok environment and characters together. Testing the palette as well.
hey Pablo, the backgrounds looks cool with that palette colors, great dramatic posibilities with a desert style landscape, great!! :D I think you need to cut down a bit the left hill on first plane to no cut out the sky on that part of the image, only a comment :) Again, cool work mate! Cheers!

You're right Ferx, thank you. That left hill blocks a bit too much of the landscape... besides, i liked the idea that they are entering some kind of canyon, i think it adds some tension, like entering into the unknown... i'll keep trying.

Hi, this is the first color layout, with the woman isolated.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm into this to learn cgpainting, I have very little experience outside the "vector" world, so I'm creating my method as I go.
Any advice is welcome.
And I also reformulated de left side hill, steeper and leaving more room to the landscape.

And here is the girl with the bike and the alien sketchs.

Pablo I just discover your work and your portfolio , as you could see I like it a lot . I already add you to my Favorite I'm glad to be the first one of a long long list .I keep an eye on you.Good Luck.

Thank you Eric, is an honour that you liked my work.
I keep working to improve it.
04-28-2008, 02:54 PM
Hola Pablo, ta buena la idea. For now my suggestion would be to find a slightly different colour for the girl to make it different from the background.
Best of luck.

Here i begun to refine the lights and shadows of the woman.
I realized that a white/yellow sun shining over a mars-like red planet, with an atmosphere that scatters light in the reds, will bring a very boring lighting (whith orange light, red shadows, red radiosity, red reflections)
So, I'm trying a slightly violet scattering to the sky, and will make the rocks more complex.
And trying to find some style and consistency in the overall image. (learning to paint against the clock...)
04-29-2008, 04:06 PM
You'e right Gerardo... i'm working on it, i trying to bring more contrast with the lighting. Thank you!
And i know that the right hand sucks... i'm correcting it.
(Gerardo, is very pleasing to see hermanos uruguayos por aquí, estoy viendo tu entrada ahora para aportarte algo).

And i'm beginning to mess with the alien painting, justo to have a better understanding of the whole.
Also, i'm reformulating the enviro a bit, i lowered (roughly) the middle hills, to reveal a wider view.
I'm thinking of adding something more dramatic to the scene... like burning fields or something, just to build tension about the runaway.
05-02-2008, 03:40 PM
I started to refine the alien, modified a bit the environment, and sketching a new motorcycle. Hope to to finish on time...
05-02-2008, 03:40 PM
the left hand of the alien is looking weird... in the first sketch it was lying on the strange engine of the motorcycle, that is gone by now. Have to think of another arm position, maybe with his hand on the head... i'll work on this.
Any advice is welcome.

Pablo come on it's time to work and finish we got a week
05-04-2008, 10:40 PM
Tenés un very good Espanglish Pablo. jejeje. Thinking about the aliens hand, placing it in his forehead could make him look more worried.
SAludos del yorugua. Hope you finish this on time!
05-05-2008, 09:09 PM
Yes, i know i'm late, but anyway, i'm determined to finish on time... this is my first digital painting work, so i'll be happy with the results, anyway. Thanks for your support guys!
i hope to do it better next contest.
And I know mi espanglish's a bit messy, pero relativamente understandable, jajaj.
I better keep painting fast.

Just a few details, a composition adjustment (the bike is in the air now), and begining the coloring of the bike an the chimp... (run forrest)
05-07-2008, 08:52 PM
Refining the motorcycle...
05-12-2008, 09:25 PM
Ok... the time is over, so i can't go too far from here.
The final image wil be very similar to this, i know it's not very impressive, but i've learned a lot, and i hope that next i'll be able to produce a better final image. Thanks a lot.

During the terraforming of Areios, a very "mars-like" planet, Neekos, the neochimp, discovers something really weird on the plans the Library gave them to execute, and so he convinces his superior Alaia, and his close friend, the alien Gluhb, to inform the truth.
But in the meanwhile, a very strage "accident" occurs at Neekos home, and they decide to run for refugee out in the wilderness, in the "Darkened Pass", the only one place where no one would dare to look after them...
