hey guys, i just finished my 1st 3d animation using lightwave3d.

took the whole semester to do right over 1:30 minute of animation. Render times were averaging 34 minutes a frame on most the scenes.

Enjoy. Oh btw this is titled "The Lament Configuration" because I'm a huge Hellraiser fan. For those of you that know what that is maybe you will appreciate this, for those that don't go rent the movies!
Here is the main character posed. This is not from the animation, but of a test render before.

Why did you put the test screen in front of it?

Very nice for a first animation:)

can you trim off the 15 megs of nothing that happens at the beginning? All the bars and tone and camera wipe stuff... why even have that?

The camera work is very spline-curvy.
It's also way too erratic and breaks the 180 rule a few too many times. The strobing lights when the chains fly out are just confusing, but they do at least hide the stiff chain animation.
It needs lots of work in many areas, but if you're a hallraiser fan, you know what passion is, and so you'll know to keep at and you will improve.
Do some reading on cinematography, so you can learn how to use a CG camera.
Also, study some more traditional animation, to learn how to give your character a sense of weight. It feels like there is no gravity in that room.

humm, why on earth did you put a 30 second test screen before your animation. Also all that stuff with the countdown and the little title sheet could be stiped out for the web version which would cut your file size in half. Also I would suggest encodeing with DIVX to get the file size smaller as well as higher quality.

The animation itself, well, it could use a lot of work. It looks like you are off to a good start though, keep at it!

yeah i understand what your saying and thanks for the reply!

the 30 sec test pattern, 10 sec between, 10 sec slate(title), then countdown leader, 5 sec blank to title (where the actual thing begins is quite annoying, but i guess i should clarify why its like that. not by choice i can assure.

my professor forced us to do this as good practice to adhere to professional video setup. i guess i should just edit all that crap out and put the actual animation up. i'll do that now for download sake.

i appreciate the comments!

in over 8 years professional experinece, not once have I ever seen anyone adjust the color tone on their monitor to match the bars shown on a demo reel. More often than not, people look on it with a scowl and get impatient waiting for the actual animation. Personally, it doesn't bother me on a reel, but on a download link, it's gotta go

yeah i guess he wanted us to at least learn and be aware that most reels have this at the beginning. it was an intro class and this particular prof was very anal about it. he is from the old school era of film before digital ever existed.
