I'm about to undertake a huge animation in Maya that has a ride film quality to it. But it means massive amounts of geometry and I'm looking for some way to slim it down so it renders quicker.

In Max I found a script called "blinders" over at http://www.blur.com/Blurmaxscripts, that when an object left the camera view it would make it non-renderable, thus saving rendering time. And I was wondering if there was a MEL script or some other way to do this in Maya.

Here's a diagram of what I'd like to do:

you should try to make a script that could consist of if object out of camera shape or degree or somthing then not visible. something of that sort i would be guessing. Never tried writing mel. That is probably what you will end up using to do this.
