View Full Version : I've made my final decision
sebek27 05-12-2003, 08:34 PM i've been learning C4D and LW demo versions for the past few months and have come to a conclusion that C4D is much easier to use, has all the tools you need to create whatever you can imagine, awesome/fast rendering engine and a great user base to help you with any questions you may have. What else... no stupid dongle to worry about... I just really love using the software even the interface is easy to comprehend
I see a wonderful future for this app and I know that as the upgrades grow, the toolset will grow and catch up and even surpass other so called "major-apps" although, i think V8 of Cinema is definitely a professional package. I can focus on C4D now and learn all I can...
Now all I have to do is wait till September when my wife goes back to school so I can buy my own copy
no more LW for me sorry LWers :bounce: :applause:

Glad to hear it! My unbiased <cough> opinion is that you made the right choice. I looked at the same two programs before going with C4D. Plus it sounds like you are going to get the student version (?) which is $100 cheaper anyway. Better and cheaper -- can't beat that.
John
sweet the wait is over.
we finally got you on board, although it did take quite alot of convincing to do this.
good luck.
P.S.
I think maxon marketing should give this forum a big pat on the back now. I mean didn't everyone in here try just a little to convince him to get it? that said MAXON rocks!
edit my 1400 post woo hoo

If c4d's the one that works for you then go for it!
one of the main reasons i chose lw over c4d as my main app was the spline modeling, but apart from that c4d does have everything you need,, maybe at a higher price but you have to go with the app that works for you. :)
and we have recently been shown that c4d is also a superb car modeler.
the toolset will grow and catch up and even surpass other so called "major-apps"
don't be too optimistic ;) remember, the "major apps" toolset's will carry on growing as well, but c4d does show a bright future
glad you've chosen one though!!!
all the best,
Will

I just made the same decision. I evaluated demos from all the major apps and was leaning towards LW for a while. C4D was actually the last demo I tried and I liked so much better than anything else. The interface, the stability (very important after using AM for years), and the renderer all blew me away. Must be that german engineering. Plus all the great work that's been coming out of C4D recently really helped convince me.

umm squid I have never heard of the mexican wave though.

actually it comes out to the same price $800 since it will cost me $299 for educational version and $495 to upgrade to commercial version, so C4D is NOT more expensive :p

hmm interesting, so which modules are you getting with that? because the app alone is a mere 595. DO you get the whole XL bundle for that price? man what a way around the system.

yep you get the whole XL bundle :applause:

I don't have an answer for this but i can tell you a thing i've learnt these months, Maxon almost always knows what to do, add, remove, they have their own plans and they almost never fail.

Hi,
sorry if i disagree. More programmers do mean more problems in coordination and loss in friction.
We are trying to keep the team lean and mean ;)

Like the swedish saying:
"Ju mer kockar desto sämmre soppa"
"Ju mer kockar desto sämmre soppa"
Well...
For mange kokke fordærver maden
Zu viele Köche verderben den Brei
To many cooks will ruin the meal
French anyone?

$299? what for the xl bundle? surely not!! isn't it just 299 for the base program??
i got a letter from maxon today with a special upgrade offer for my non upgrade version of 6, so now i am quite tempted!, although i don't know what c4d has that lw hasn't......
i must say though, i am very impressed with maxons devotion to their costomers!!

we like lean and mean...imho always get better results.
but would like to see a shorter release cycle than say 18months...cinema to cinema fine...but bodypaint, dynamics all want updating again imho.
hopefully more cash slopping around will mean maxon have taken on this challenge..
remember also that maxon's main product costs 595.
last year it cost alot more. so they really do have to up the volume to make the same ammount. I have no doubt they are doing it, however remember that they need the volume to stay afloat with the new pricing strategy.
ohh and you do get the XL bundle but I didn't know about the 495 to upgeade. thats sweet.
WChestnutt

remember though, its 595 for the base prog, thats without advanced rendering ect, that will be one reason for the price drop, it is better value though.
Will
I am saying that they have to sell 3x higher volume of their main product, then they would have last year.
