Hello everyone..

Last month, in March, we actually started our short film project at school. And to my surprise, I developed a story (about a alien and a viking) that fitted perfectly into this challenge.
So I will post a massive update here today, showing my work in progress.

This is my basic idea:

Harvey, a Norwegian Viking, is afflicted with alien invasion. Small, green, alien chaps have a trend to involuntary ruin Harvey’s Viking camp.
And yet again it happens, when Harvey is ready to lunch his newly repaired Viking ship, a young and fearless alien crash his mini-UFO into the Viking ship, tearing the whole front apart. Harvey is dejected, and forces the young one to repair his Viking ship, using parts from the UFO. The young alien need to work day and night to get it finished, while he wait for the rescue to come.

I am not 100% finished with the ending, so I will post the second part of the storyboard later.

The title of the film is "Alien Viking", and I am aiming for a mix between cartoonish and a little bit of realisme. The lenght, no more than 3 min.

Hope you like my idea.

Here is some work in progress 3D models from my two characters, the mini-UFO, and the start of the Viking camp where most of the story takes place.

And this is where I am today.
I have finished making all 3D models, textured most of them, and rigged the characters with the Brad Noble rig.
Only thing left is to make a good looking space, with some planets and asteroids. I also need to find a way to texture the alien, to make the skin look... alienish :)
Maybe some of you have a suggestion on how to make good alien skin? Maybe with the use of the SSS skin shader i 3Ds Max?

Hope you guys like what I have done so far, and some feedback would have been great :)

You can simply use a uv maping modifier... maybe a shpere... And paint some texture in photoshop. Don't forget a bump texture... you can even use a smoke tool. If you need some exemple take a look at my profile.. there's an alien there.

Here is a update on my Alien Viking film. I have done a lot with the look of the film, to make the cartoon characters fit more into the environment. That means that I have changed to more colorful textures, fix the water, the sky etc..
I am also working with the pre-viz / block animation these days. I will upload that in a couple of days.

What do you guys think?

I have now worked a lot more with the staging and animation of my Alien Viking film.
By following this link (http://home.halden.net/mortenjacobsen/080507_alienviking_rough_act1.mov) you can see 49 sec. of (rough) preview animation, taken from the middle of the beginning of the film. At this part you can see the contrast between the two worlds, where the Alien enjoys himself, and Harvey the Viking is fixing his Viking ship.
Hope you like it :)
