View Full Version : spline points to poly?
artemesia66 05-12-2003, 07:41 PM what's the best way to get the points on a spline into a new polygon object so I can use them for the basis of a cage? what i've worked out so far is this: drop the spline into an extrude nurbs, make editable, then delete everything i don't want. seems like there must be a better way.
TIA

well I use the export and import to ASCII things in the file menu of structure manager.
that seems to work well.

you can even copy and paste them from the structure manager.

thanks JIII. that would work too. i guess i was hoping for someone to say "oh, yeah that's the "convert spline to polyline" function. oh, well.

mme_sadie, thank you! I had actually tried this, but without much conviction, so when it didn't work, i just thought it didn't work. with your assurance that it did, i went back and tried it again. what i missed the first time, is that you first have to convert the spline to linear, or the paste doesn't know what to do with all the values for the tangents.
works like a charm.:buttrock:

Blesss you...This has been confusing me forever.
Ditto here on the Bless You..
Something I sometimes do is grab a plane, whack all of the polys and use the magnet tool to align the points then just bridge the sucker together in the shape you want :) ,plus it takes a while to run out of points as well.

yeah, the thing with this is that i was re-using the curve from another piece of the object, so i really needed to start with *that* spline.
