Anyone get this book (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/1584502266/qid=1052762555/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_3_5/701-7005047-2879540) yet? I'm curious to find out more about it. Brick & mortar book stores in my area aren't carrying it yet but it can be ordered on line.

Thanks in advance...

I just got my copy in from Amazon.com today. Haven't had any time to start reading it yet as I'm in the middle of another MAX book. At first glance, looks like a quality publication. I'll post a review if I get some time to read it soon.

Thanks, Phoric. I'll look forward to seeing your comments. Perhaps just providing a list of what the book contains/covers will give me enough info to decide whether to purchase or not. Usually I look for books that go outside the realm covered in the manuals/help files. I'm especially looking for stuff on Combustion. There is one book that (Art of Production...)goes into Combustion in some detail but I'd like more...

I bought it because it looks like one of the only books out right now specifically for 3DS Max 5.1 on the subject of intermediate/advanced level animation. Although I have used MAX for years in creating simple logos and real basic shapes and stuff mostly for the web, I finally decided to take the plunge and try to learn some real modeling and animation skills. So I upgraded to MAX 5.1 and spent a couple hundred bucks on all sorts of books. :) I have a couple more books to read before moving onto this one. And having lots of fun. :) Anyways...

Flipping through the book... Looks like it is geared for the intermediate user. 474 pages with a CDROM included with tutorial-related files. Chapter 16 covers a little on Combustion 2.1 and compositing, looks like only a couple of pages though. Plenty of stuff on special effects, character studio, facial animation, lip syncing, morphing.

Also check the US version of Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1584502266/qid%3D1052762555/sr%3D1-5/ref%3Dsr%5F1%5F3%5F5/104-3052576-3952725), which has a little more detail on the book than the link you listed. Wish I could provide more info. Hope this helps.
