LegumMan 05-12-2003, 03:35 PM I work in this moment on this image of the ring. This is one tests of render. The final image will arrive later with texture for the ground.:p

Its hard to make this ring because:
It was seen as perfect cg in the movie
Everyone who likes LOTR has made one already (and probably posted it here)
Yep, its too yellow, not golden enough
The lensflare looks like a cheap out-of-the-box flare.
Make a background (a table, the ring in the chimney fire) and use stuff like HRDI and you might get better than the ones who tried it before ;)
regards, heipei
really nice..but its too yellow and the flare must be erased

Thank you for all your comments.I had not seen at which point the lens flare was too strong...but it was just a test for the "fun".
It is not the final picure...the lens flare will not be there any more at the final.:shame:

Hey:
Have HDRI capability? HEHEHE....... Use it and the ring really stand out with accurate lighting and exposure.

I don't have a reference from the film, but if I look at the mass of the ring compared to it's diameter, it feels too "thick". The result is either a very heavy ring or a very small one (even for Frodo's fingers). Nevermind my crits if it matches your reference. // Aehrick.

Also, the inner circle of the ring shouldn't be concave and the bevel where the inner and outer surface meet not as round (but that could already be solved by flattening the inner surface). // Aehrick.

Thank you for your councils... but I do not try to reproduce the ring as in film but such as i imagined it by reading Tolkien.
I do not know at all how is the Ring in film.
For the moment I did not see film yet because I am sure to prefer the book.:bounce:

In that case, I take everything back, except for the weight issue, where I think the relation between gold-mass and diameter is wrong. Keep posting updates! // Aehrick.

... you thinks that I should increase the diameter of the ring for more coherence ???:)

Ehm isn't the text only visible on the outside of the ring, not the inside?

In the book, after Gandalf threw the ring in fire... the text is visible inside and outside...:)

Here an update of the Ring of Sauron. The shader of gold is more darkness now...and in fact i prefere that because i want the malefic beauty
As I explained it I do not seek to reproduce the ring as in film...i did not see it and I am not on wanting to see it for the moment.
Note :
The image is not final and well on a bottom will be put later, i work on it at this time.:surprised
looks better, but not like gold to me...
donīt know what it is...
try to change lightning..
