I have having an iusse where I my particles are not being fully rendered.

I am trying to have three spining helex of blobby particels under a glass dome. If i set the primary renderer to "Scanline" and hide the glass dome all the particles render fine. if i change the primary renderer to "raytracing" only parts of the particles render. if i show the glass dome it doesn't matter who primary renderer i use the particles still render broken.

does anyone have any ideas? i would be happy to post a scene file if anyone wants it.
Thank you.

I am using maya 2008 sp1 64bit. mental ray 3.6.51.0.
xp 64 bit.

would having both maya 8.5 and maya 2008 sp1 installed at the same time have anything to do with it? I am out of ideas. thank you.

looking in to this error more in look like it has something to do with mental ray refractions. any ideas?

it might. have you tried remaking the table top?

So after exhaustive testing I found a solution to the issue. In the end it had nothing to do with the primary renderer setting. I found my answer in the acceleration tab in mental ray render settings. Setting acceleration to “Regular BSP” didn’t work. “Large BSP” didn’t work. But setting it to “Hierarchical Grid” did work. However mental ray switches back to using large BSP because “RC 0.4 warn 082090: grid acceleration is obsolete, using BSP2” but for whatever reason when it does this check it renders out all of my blobby particle systems with out a hitch and even works in the batch renderer. Any idea why I can’t just set it to Large BSP in the first place?
