View Full Version : Modeling : cutting objects
--dig-- 05-12-2003, 01:30 PM hi folks,
i need some help cutting an object to get sight at some objects inside... i tried some booleans and opacity maps, but both results are not very satisfying. even powerbooleans didnt do it...
has anybody an idea of another solution, that could work?
i have a cad model here, so "modelling" is very poor (150 objects; not one nice model)

you will need to provide a screen shot so we can get an idea of what your trying to achieve.

just imagine a complete car. now i want to show the motorblock, the seats and all the other stuff inside. how can i peal off the chassis? it should be animatable and not only a transparency...

Assuming this is all EMesh or Epoly, what you could do, having selected a set of faces you'd want to be able to pull "off", hit the "detach" button of the rollout, and you can then choose to detach that geometry as either an element (still part of the same mesh) or as a seperate object. That might leave you with holes or apparent opennings in the original geometry that you'd then have to fill up / close.
Now you might run into some problems if the meshes were not intended to be "seperated" like that.
Indeed a screen shot might be usefull here.

you could add a slice modify to the chassis mesh, which deletes one half, then just animate the gizmo.
there is a plugin you can buy that does this cross section thingy and i think you can find it on the digimation web site.
hope this helps

You'll probably need a Cap Holes modifier after the slice if you want to fill in the cut section.
I think the plugin Tim Woods means is called Scalpel but I maybe wrong about that.
