In order to assign envelopes to my bones on my character does the character need to be 1 mesh? In the tutorials it has the alien as 1 mesh, and nowhere I read talks about why that is or specifically that needs to be the case.
My character has several objects associated with it. Basic human mesh but with a helmet, a vest, boots, gloves. I guess what I'm asking is, Do I need to attach all the seperate objects together before I start the Skinning process? Or would I have to assign a seperate skin modifier to each seperate object? (That seems a bit tedious, but I imagine that would achieve the best outcome).

Thanks in advance,

You can do either. I've skinned characters before as one solid mesh, as seperate meshes but attached to be one object, and also as seperate objects entirely. If you are going to skin seperate objects i think that they all need the skin or physique modifier on them [Edit:] unless they are solid objects that aren't going to bend with movement, in that case you can just link the objects to the bones. Hope that helps:thumbsup:
