View Full Version : 'Polygon' artifact...?
This is the strangest thing, I have this polygonal artifact appearing under difffent camera angles. But you can see it's not an actual polygon (otherwise I could just delete it) as the outline is missing.
When I turn the camera farther it dissappears but when I need to see that particular part it's right in my view. On the other side of this model, nothing is wrong.
It's also disturbingly visible in the render view... :annoyed:
What may have cause this? Or how can I solve it?

Try reducing the smoothing tag angle to about 50 or 60,or alternatively whack it altogether and just re apply later.See if that solves the problem.
As to why its happening :hmm: ...could be the angle of the poly or something, but I dont know enough about this area to really comment on that.

ooo thats a bad poly. Basicallywhat it is is you have a harshly folded quad (hence why you don't see the edge your actually not seeing twoedges as they are underneath.) As for fixing it, depends on how you want it to look, but right now you have pat of a poly going inside another one, if its going to be subdivided shouldn't be a problem, but if its going to stay lowres then thats some nasty modeling there you'll need to clean up.

It looks to me like you've got an edge going from the right-hand point off to somewhere up on the left. I get this if I've been usng the Bridge tool and it bridges points on the back of the object, if you see what I mean.
Try selecting that edge and see where it leads.

DOH! He beat me to it. Yeah, what Kaiskai said...

Yes, it was a folded quad, strangly enough, I managed to delete it and bridge it back in and now it's correctly folded (like the other side of my model).
It's like the question on the folded triangle I saw some days ago. One folded inwards while the other folded outwards.
Weird stuff... :hmm:

I think that which way the quad creases depends on which vertex your quad 'starts' with. I.e. if you select a quad, and then look at it in the structure manager you can see which vertices are being used.
Suppose it says 0,1,2,3. If you changed that to 1,2,3,0 then you would still have the same quad in theory, but I think that the diagonal will have flipped (can't try it right now).

:hmm: Doh!....I didnt realize it was only one poly
