View Full Version : Displacement Errors

Hey guy's, having trouble with my Displacement maps. Have made a hi res model of a spaceship but when i render it it looks like it has splits in parts of it, some following where my map detail is and some along the geomety itself. I've tried screwing with the alpha gain and offset which gets rid of most of the prob, but not completely. Please help !

Which renderer?

Have you raised the displacement bounds?

Ya got me there, How do i do that ?
Also I forgot to say I'm using Mental Ray !

Displacing polygons is generally not a good idea. Both mental ray and Renderman prefer you displace sub-Ds and NURBS. Try smoothing your normals or convert to Sub-D.

Yeah, polygons are not so great for a lot of displacement
