Title: Battle for Coruscant
Name: Simon Joyce
Country: United Kingdom
Software: 3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop

This is a scene i made using the Republic Gunship model i built for the Star Wars Hardcore Modelling Challenge last year.
The original is here : http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=517281

I really did this as an exercise, just to re-render something in layers and do some (quite a bit) of post work in PS

i like the model very much, but the buildings are lost in the blur.

thank you all ..

the blurred buildings were intentional to give the impression of the speed the gunships were travelling at ... maybe it didnt work

I've noted the following to a few others as well as I ponder their use of shallow depth of field: Basically, camera optics are immutable, and a function of aperture opening and lens length which defines field of view. Because you've stepped outside the bounds of physical reality by not actually using a camera that has the same specs as a real camera, you've convinced your audience that your model is 12 inches long.

But you have some awesome models and renders in your portfolio.

As I read once again what I posted, I realized it sounded a little harsh. I didn't mean it that way - it's just that as a longtime photographer as well as CG enthusiast, I feel compelled to point out the importance of respecting camera optics with respect to focal length, aperture opening, and object size to get the proper effect with regard to depth of field.

thanks Bryan, its cool. I maybe did overdo it a bit with the blurring ..

its all a learning experience ..:)

I'm guessing you have a forth gunship in trailing behind in the distance but to behonest it really does nothing for the picture, I would just keep it to the three at most - which are clearly visible.

Its always nice to see your ass-kicking Gunship in action, though, Sim. Good work.

I'd like to see this with a landscaped backdrop, like a sunset or similar. The building colours are to similar to the ships IMHO thus giving the image less punch. The background also screws up the scale as well...(well you did ask lol)

A nice orange alien sunset, ummmmmmm maybe green... :bounce:

Good work though sir...
