CGTalk - Maya help needed

Hi, I'm stuck on how to global extrude?

Text example 1:And extrude them down Global Y to create the ribcage.

Explination to my problem: When i Polygons>extrude face, it extrude's out everywhere.

You can use your basic Move,Scale,and Rotate tools after you hit your extrude tools.

Wait a minute.....you might have to choose "keep faces together" in the gloabal poly options...if I'm thinking right.

Not quite there yet.

The global extrude is the tiny little blue dot attached above the manip handle of the extrude tool. Keep faces together should be on, I agree there. But the global setting vs. local, is that little dot.
