Title: The blue cat
Name: Laurent Samani
Country: Spain
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop

I have done this picture for the Spanish version of a European events guide called Partysan. I had to maintain the upper part and the right bottom corner rather empty for the logo and the titles… and the subject was free.

I started by drawing sketches of the girl and the cat that I imported in 3DS max. I added the mesh of the scooter and I played with the camera. It was really comfortable to choose a good perspective. When I was happy with the settings I drawn the final sketch on paper. I prepared the painted background with really heavy strokes and I painted a first version of the palm trees, of the scooter, of the characters over it

I scanned the painting. Then with Photoshop I refined everything and I worked on all the details, the gloss on the lips, the eyes of the girl, the stripes on her helmet, all the stickers, the spotted layer over the rainbow, the “ghetto blaster sound” and its shadow, the sun, some extra white stains…

This is very very lovely! Wonderful style :)
I think the rainbow is a bit too vivid, it detracts from the characters. Otherwise it's excellent!

Ha very cool. I love the happy care free feel to this one. A breath of fresh air compared to allot of the mellow dramatic images around here. I also enjoy your mix of techniques. It really gives this one a style all it's own.

Dope selection of colors and nice composition. The style is definitely up my alley

That's true that the rainbow is really bright.
I used this range of colors because I was knowing that this part will receive black headlines.

The final image with the magazine logo and the texts is also centered and rotated differently.

There is a photo showing this on my web (http://www.laurent.es/book):

Now, I am not really sure of this but maybe I made this part brighter to be sure it will catch the reader's eyes.
