View Full Version : Creature Colour ... I'm lost in a circle
William b. Hand 05-12-2003, 01:15 AM I'm chasing my tail! If you would be so kind as to tell me which of these colour schemes you prefer, I will be most grateful! Just A.B.C.orD. easy.

I would choose either B or C because the colors contrast better and are more vibrant which makes it look a whole lot better.
Between B and C though I would probably choose B cause those colors look awesome.

A, A, A, if u don't choose A you'll be making a huge huge huge mistake.
I like A cause it looks more natural, the other colors are too out there(not that there's anything wrong with that, but in this case A is the better choice).
In the end it's really up to you, whatever u like that's what you should do, who cares what we think, we can comment on technique and the coolness factor of the ART, our opinions are just suggestions in the end. :buttrock:  :bounce:

I dont like none of those colors,as far as a texture color they seem too "rainbow~ish"....

Wow. You guys rule! These responses are faster and furiouser than I ever would've expected from a weekend thread!
Between CGTalk and another forum I posted an identical thread at, the votes are confoundingly even (With the exception of C... which has zero).
Currently D. has a slight lead over A.and B. ... but, it's slight.
Oh, and there's the vote for much less vibrant colours (wgreenlee1).
I'm suprised at the... uh... passion that so many of you seem to have for your particular choices...
"if u don't choose A you'll be making a huge huge huge mistake."-XTitan
"B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B BB B B... etc."-jampoz
"dd d d d d d d dd d d d d d d dd d d d d d d"-xerozz
and who can forget: "so obvious.... (B) Duh"-Gremlin
So, I dunno. Keep the votes coming! I was hoping for some clear concensus, but I may be outta luck.
Oh, and Windex... not a chrysalis, but rather a monster head... In profile, looking to the left, giant jaw, unclear mouth, and horn things stickin' out the top. See? Hopefully that will become clear.
wgreenlee1, I know what you're saying... but, this guy just started off pretty vibrant and I think he's gonna stay pretty vibrant. I'm new to colour, and part of what's happening with these ridiculous colours is an attempt to sortuv jump in headfirst... damn the mauve torpedoes, and all that. I promise that a more-restrained palette will appear in future threads.:D
ANYWAY, Thanks again everbuddy - your responses are most encouraging, if varied!

i really love 'C'. but it depends on the effect you want to achieve! c is good for some ghostly spooky effect. more realism for a fiendish creature you'd find in 'D' that is also good.

I'm going for 'D'.

Firstly, V cool work :)
Second: I'd go for A, I think the others are bordering on dayglo, but it depends on what sort of creature this is. Does it blend with surroundings or is it a "balls to the wall" sort of predator that doesn't bother with concealment...in which case a brighter palette might suit it more, in which case I'd go for D

Hmm, I'd have to go with D also..seems the most harmonious, and fiendish..I really like some of the colors in the others on an individual basis, but they don't seem to 'gel' as much as in D. B is closest in line after that I think. Maybe has to do with the light/dark thing.
Curious to see how this stuff will look across the entire creature..well, and curious to see the entire creature, too :D

I prefer D.
I think B looks a bit too... stereotypical? like.. your typical fantasy creature.. blue and purple, bit boring.
I think C's colours are too similar.
If not D, I prefer A.

Thanks everyone! Okay... it finally looks like D has it. Thanks for all the interest and help!
I think this is a good argument for why I should consider context a little earlier on. I was just messing around, without any reason or premeditation ( which is how I've always tended to work ) ...but it's too easy to run into confusion like this! I think I gotta focus more on the initial conceptualization.
You've all been very helpful, and I'll keep you updated!:)
