A recent breakthrough by researchers at UCL Computer Science allows for a quick way to simulate the gradation of shadows caused by indirect light bouncing off objects .
Developed by Dr Jan Kautz, the new simulation method "models the path of light as it bounces off surfaces".

According to the article, the result is that, on top of the broad distinction between light and dark regions that results from a simple model including only direct light, indirect light can be factored into simulated scenes.

And during that time only Crysis, Far Cry 2 and maybe Gears of War 2 are the game with advanced indirect lighting... That's dull! Release it sooner please.

The image is pretty low-res and the information scarce. Other than that nothing to do but wait to see if this promise turns into something.

Fast Modelling of light bouncing off surfaces is a pretty lofty claim. At first I thought this was all about his coherent shadow maps (very very clever ,btw) but I think it has more to do with an unannounced technique .
Considering that Dr.Kautz has teamed up with the Geomerics, the geometric algebra specialists, it is probably a geometric simplification of meshes that allow efficient visibility computation which in turn allows the possibility of easily computing light paths.Once again, geometric algebra may also help with the light ray intersection and its reflection. That's what I think and it is probably all wrong.......

BTW, from what I understand Geomerics 'Enlighten already does what Dr.Kautz method is supposed to accomplish(indirect lighting/radiosity).
