This is probably a stupid question but how do I join 2 files together in blender (effectively a cut and paste). I built 2 models in separate files (for various reasons) and now I need them to be one file.

Any help would be much appreciated.

That is quite easy to do in Blender. Just click on "File|Append or Link" or press Shift+F1. A dialogue will open up where you can chose at the bottom of this view if you want to append the object or whatever you have there, into the current file or link it. More documentation about that can be found in the official manual at wiki.blender.org (http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Using_Linked_Libraries)

ou can add any part of a blender file to another. Just hit shift+f1 and click the blend file you would like to add. You can now chose what element of the file you would like to add.
If you would like to add just the object, simply choose object and then what object you would like to add. Same for the other elements.
Hope this helps.
