anyone can give some ideas on creating this kind of shader on a ball like object ?

once i did this with partivolume (but in that case it was a crytal), the rendertimes weren't usable for production (animation).

but in this case you can do it with glossy refractions (mia?) or the mentalray volume shader. or even just with mia refractions and max distance.. this is hell fast and it does exactly the thing you need.
